I loved exploring the ghats and alleyways with someone who knows the city so well! I discovered some good places and gained a better understanding of the city. It felt like taking a walk with a good friend who loves showing off his home town!
It seems that the heart of Varanasi is in it’s gulleys, with every turn there were interesting things to see or people to interact with. I’ve never been a fan of ‘tours’, so Varanasi Walks was great and felt like exploring with friends.
The walk through the winding gullies of the city was fascinating, it gave me an enjoyable insight into the history of the city and the lives of the people who live there. I’d really recommend VaranasiWalks as a great way to experience the sights of ancient Varanasi.
Jai took me on all 4 of the walking tours. There’s no way I would have gone to many of those places without such a service. I learned more in 1 day about the city than I had in the 2 weeks prior. Well worth it, and look forward to doing more next time I go.
Varanasi seemed a bit overwhelming when I first arrived. I took 2 of these tours and was quickly acclimated to the people, culture and customs. I felt so much more at ease wandering around by myself afterward. I highly recommend these guys for really informative walks.
Peter and I and the two friends we were travelling with took 2 of the tours described here. They were both so interesting; Jai did a fabulous job of interweaving information about the city, the people, the culture and the religion as we meandered through the narrow alleys near the ghats. We loved Varanasi, and our walking tour of the hidden alleys was one of the highlights; we saw places we would never have seen without his guidance. We will defintiely recommend these tours to anyone we know who is going to this amazing city!
We went to Varanasi over the break and had a wonderful experience with a new company called VaranasiWalks. Its founder, Jeremy ‘Jai’ Oltmann, took us on an incredible evening boat tour on the Ganges and on foot through Old Varanasi. He was very knowledgeable and personable and helped us explore areas I’m sure we would have missed had we been on our own. If you are going to Varanasi any time soon I highly recommend looking into Jai’s company.
