Fortress of the Raja

Full Day taxi tour to Chunar Fort & Ram Nagar

Journey 1.5hrs into the outskirts of the city to the Chunar fortress, then Ram Nagar palace & Durga temple.

Fortress of the Raja is a full day tour by vehicle beginning with a trip to Chunar fortress where you will see an ancient fort that was said to be the place Vishu took his great step (chuna means ‘step’) and the Sonwa Mandap, a royal hall constructed in the 1300’s.

We take a picnic lunch (packed beforehand) in a nearby Islamic tomb site, then we travel to Ram Nagar, the home of the Maharaja of Varanasi who is called the Kashi Naresh. You will see an exquisite temple constructed in the late 1800s and then enter the gate of Ram Nagar fort and we wander through the courtyard to the Vyas temple, writer of the Vedas, on the balcony of the Maharajah’s palace.
